Colorado Expedition

Meet on Saturday, 6 Nov at 0830 at Chiriaco Summit(33 39'39"N 115 43'117"W). Gas up here as this is that last gas for the trip.

Cross back over Interstate 10 and travel 1.3 miles to SR2013. From here it is approximately 5 miles to our first site. The first site is an abandoned flourspar mine where we will dig for fluorite. We will spend a couple hours here before heading out on the picturesque Red Canyon Trail( 8miles). We will drop into Salt Creek Wash and connect with the historic Bradshaw Trail. We will follow the trail as it skirts the Nothern most edge of a live aerial gunnery range to our next site. At the next site you will be able to pickup chalcedony and petrified pine bark. From here we will follow the Bradshaw trail to Wiley Well Road and proceed either Wiley Well or Coon Hollow camp sites. The camp sites are primitive.

Sunday morning after we break camp we will drive to the Hauser Geode Bed. If there is enough time and interest we can go to the Opal Hill Mine and dig for precious opal. There may be a fee to dig there however.
